Silverdale was named in 1895. It was incorporated as a borough in 1896 and developed from a small agricultural village to the suburban community it is today.
- Early settlement: The area was first settled in the early 1800s and was originally a small collection of farmsteads with a population of around 250.
- Name changes: The town went through several name changes before becoming Silverdale:
- Paletown: Named after a pale wooden fence in front of the corner store.
- Portland: The name was changed by 1870.
- Lawndale: The name was changed again in 1876.
- Post office: A post office was established in 1883 under the name Lawndale, with H.C. Gerhart as the postmaster.
- Modern development: Over time, Silverdale grew into the family-oriented, suburban community it is today.
